Trips

Split the trip, not the friendship.

Four people, a ferry, a beach house two of you paid for, and a museum in dollars. SplitPop keeps all of it in one group and works out who pays whom on the last evening.

An example. The names and amounts are made up. Sardinia in June

How it goes

  1. 01

    Before you leave

Create the group, add everyone by name and send the link to the trip chat.

  2. 02

    On the way

Whoever pays adds it, in the currency they paid in. Two cards on one bill are two payers.

  3. 03

    On the last evening

Balances shows the fewest payments that settle the trip. Once the money has changed hands, “Add payment” records each one.

What helps most

  • Any currency, both amounts kept

Enter a bill as you paid it. SplitPop records it in the group’s currency at the rate of the day and keeps the original amount and the rate with it. Every reader can see the group in their own currency, as an estimate next to the real amount.

  • Several payers

Two cards, one bill. Enter everyone who put money in, with their amount; SplitPop checks that the payers add up to the total before you save.

  • Receipts on the expense

Attach the photo or the PDF to the expense. In a public group it is part of what the link shows.

With your assistant

SplitPop tells the assistant to read back the amount and the people and to wait for your yes before it records an expense or a payment or changes who is in a group.

Add the beach house: Noor paid 200, Ben 160. Split it between the four of us.

Good to know

  • A display currency is an estimate, shown next to the group’s own amount, which is what everyone settles in.
  • A payment records money that changed hands elsewhere. SplitPop never moves money, and a payment has no date to set.

Questions

What if we pay in different currencies?

Enter each bill in the currency you paid it in. SplitPop records it in the group’s currency at the rate of the day you enter it and keeps both amounts and the rate.

Two of us paid one bill. Now what?

Enter both payers with what each put in. Together they have to match the total; SplitPop says so while you type.

Do my friends need the app?

No. The group’s link opens in any browser, and reading a public group needs no account.
