Terms of Use
Last updated 1 Oct 2026
Please read these terms carefully. They limit our liability and set out what you are responsible for — see in particular “SplitPop does not move money”, “AI assistants” and “Liability”.
Who we are and what these terms cover
SplitPop is provided by Luckysoft GmbH (in formation), Switzerland (“we”, “us”). Our address is in the imprint.
These terms govern your use of SplitPop: the website and web app at www.splitpop.app, the mobile app, and SplitPop's connector for AI assistants. You accept them when you create an account or otherwise use SplitPop. If you do not accept them, do not use SplitPop.
How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy.
What SplitPop is
SplitPop helps groups keep track of shared costs. Members record expenses and payments; SplitPop calculates who owes whom and suggests how to settle up. SplitPop is a tool for keeping records — nothing more.
SplitPop is currently free. We may introduce paid features later. Nothing will cost money without your explicit agreement, and you will learn the price and the terms beforehand.
SplitPop is new and under active development (beta). Features may change, be added or be removed, and errors can occur.
Who may use SplitPop
You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are not yet of age where you live, you need the consent of a parent or legal guardian.
If you use SplitPop for an organisation, you confirm that you may bind it to these terms.
Your account
Give accurate information and keep it current. Keep your sign-in safe, and do not let anyone else use your account.
You are responsible for what happens through your account — including what the AI assistants you connected do — unless you could not have prevented it. If you suspect misuse, write to support@splitpop.app at once.
SplitPop does not move money
SplitPop records payments that you make elsewhere — in cash, by bank transfer or through a payment app. It does not hold, transfer or collect money. It is not a bank, a payment service or a financial intermediary, and it never asks for your bank or card details.
Recording a payment in SplitPop does not make that payment, and does not prove that it was made. Whether and how debts are settled is a matter between the people concerned; we are not a party to it.
No financial, tax or legal advice
Balances, suggested transfers, statistics and categories are calculated from what members enter. They help you keep track; they are not financial, tax, accounting or legal advice, and they are only as correct as the entries behind them. They do not replace bookkeeping and are not intended as evidence. Check anything that matters to you yourself.
Your entries and other people's data
You are responsible for your entries: that amounts, currencies, dates, payers and splits are correct, and that your notes, messages and files are lawful.
When you enter other people — their name, their email address, or what they paid and owe — you confirm that you are allowed to, that you have informed them where the law requires it, and that the details are correct. Enter only what the group needs, and no sensitive data such as health information, identity documents or full bank or card numbers.
Entries in a group are shared with all of its members. Before you rely on a balance, check that the entries behind it are complete and correct.
Exchange rates
For amounts in other currencies, SplitPop uses exchange rates from a third party (Frankfurter, based on reference rates of central banks). They are for information only, can be late or wrong, and are not the rates a bank or payment service will give you. Amounts shown in a display currency are estimates. We give no guarantee for any rate; check the rate stored with an expense and change it if needed.
Public groups and sharing
A new group is public unless you choose otherwise. Anyone with its link — people and software, AI assistants included — can read the whole group without an account, attachments included. You decide what goes into a group, whether it is public, and whom you give the link to. Owners and admins can make a group private under Group settings → Visibility.
Owners and admins manage a group: its settings, visibility, members and roles, and who may join. They are responsible for these decisions.
We are not responsible for what others do with content that was made public through a link.
AI assistants
You may connect SplitPop to an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT. The assistant acts in your name and with your permissions: it can read your groups and create, change and delete expenses, payments, people, messages and more, just as you could.
Whatever an assistant does on your instruction counts as done by you, and you are responsible for it. AI models make mistakes: a model can misread amounts, currencies, people or dates and act differently from what you meant. Check what an assistant proposes before you confirm it, and check the result afterwards.
SplitPop's tools tell the assistant to read back the amounts and the people and to wait for your yes before it records, changes or deletes an expense or a payment or changes who is in a group, and SplitPop checks amounts and permissions. ChatGPT, Claude and other assistants may also ask before a tool writes, depending on your settings. These are aids that make mistakes less likely, not guarantees: we do not control the assistant and cannot guarantee that it follows these instructions, asks you, or correctly reports what it did. You remain responsible for checking what was recorded. Expenses, payments and people that are added, changed or removed show in the group's activity (a change to an expense's category alone does not), and they can be corrected in the app within the limits of your role.
The assistant is a service of a third party (for example Anthropic or OpenAI), subject to its own terms and privacy policy, for which we are not responsible. Connect only assistants you trust, and do not share your connection with anyone. You can pause every assistant at once on your profile, under Connected apps.
We may limit, suspend or block individual connections, individual assistants or the connector as a whole — for example to protect SplitPop, its users or their data.
Acceptable use
Do not use SplitPop to break the law or to harm anyone. In particular, you may not:
- enter content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing or discriminatory, or that infringes the rights of others, or personal data you are not allowed to share;
- use SplitPop for fraud or money laundering, or to make it appear that payments were made that were not;
- send spam, or use invitations, reminders or messages to harass anyone;
- upload malware, or files you have no right to share;
- access or try to access accounts, groups or data not meant for you, probe or circumvent security measures (except for a responsible report as described in our security note), or disrupt SplitPop;
- put an excessive load on SplitPop by automated means or circumvent its limits — AI assistants are welcome within the documented limits;
- copy SplitPop, resell it, or offer it as your own service.
Your content and our rights
What you enter remains yours. You grant us the non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide right to store, copy, display, transmit and otherwise process it for as long as necessary to operate, secure and improve SplitPop — including showing it to the members of your groups, to anyone with the link of a public group, and to the AI assistants you connect. This right ends when your content is deleted, except for copies in backups until they are overwritten and for content that remains in other members' groups.
SplitPop itself — its software, design, texts, name and logo — belongs to us or to our licensors. You receive a personal, non-transferable, revocable right to use it under these terms.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely and without any obligation to you.
We may remove content or block access to it if we have reason to believe that it breaks the law or these terms. We have no obligation to monitor content.
Availability and changes
We work to keep SplitPop available and correct, but it is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted, free of errors or secure, that it suits your particular purpose, or that no data will ever be lost.
Keep your own copies of what matters to you. Owners and admins can download a group's ledger under Group settings → Import & export.
We may change, restrict or discontinue SplitPop or parts of it at any time. Before we discontinue SplitPop as a whole, we will announce it at least 30 days in advance where possible, so that you can download your data.
Liability
SplitPop is free of charge. We are therefore liable only as follows, to the extent the law permits:
- We are liable without limitation for damage we cause intentionally or through gross negligence, for injury to life, body or health, and wherever mandatory law provides for liability, such as product liability law.
- Otherwise our liability is excluded, in particular for slight negligence. Where the mandatory law of your country of residence does not allow this exclusion, our liability for slight negligence is limited to the foreseeable damage that is typical for a free service like SplitPop.
- Our liability for auxiliary persons, such as employees and service providers, is excluded as far as the law permits.
- Within these limits — and unless we acted intentionally or with gross negligence — we are in particular not liable for: incorrect entries and whatever is calculated from them; debts that are not settled and disputes between members; exchange rates; what AI assistants or their providers do; content and conduct of other users; interruptions and unavailability; loss of data that you could have prevented by keeping your own copies; and lost profit, indirect damage and consequential damage.
- These limits also apply to the personal liability of our officers, employees and auxiliary persons.
Claims by third parties
If a third party — another member of a group, for example, or an authority — makes a claim against us because of content you entered or because you culpably broke these terms or the law, you release us from that claim and reimburse our reasonable costs, including the costs of legal defence. This does not apply if you are not responsible for the breach. We will tell you about such a claim promptly and give you the opportunity to take part in the defence.
Ending the use of SplitPop
You can stop using SplitPop at any time and delete your account yourself, in the app on your profile page (see the Privacy Policy for what is deleted and what stays in shared groups).
We may restrict or suspend your access, block individual functions or delete content if you break these terms or the law, or if this is necessary to protect SplitPop, its users or third parties. Where reasonable, we warn you first and tell you why. In serious cases we may close your account immediately.
We may also end these terms and close your account with 30 days' notice and without giving reasons, for example if we discontinue SplitPop.
Provisions that by their nature continue to apply after the end — in particular those on content, liability, claims by third parties and applicable law — remain in force.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms for good reason, for example when SplitPop, the law or case law changes. We tell you about significant changes in the app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. If you keep using SplitPop after that date, you accept the new terms; if you do not agree, you can stop using SplitPop and have your account deleted. Changes that the law requires, or that do not disadvantage you, may take effect sooner.
Applicable law and place of jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Swiss law, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
The exclusive place of jurisdiction is the registered office of Luckysoft GmbH as entered in the commercial register. Mandatory places of jurisdiction remain reserved, in particular those that protect consumers at their place of residence.
Final provisions
If a provision of these terms is invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains valid. The invalid provision is replaced by a valid one that comes as close as possible to its purpose.
We may transfer these terms, with all rights and obligations, to another company, such as one that takes over SplitPop. We will inform you in advance where the law requires it.
If we do not enforce a right, we do not waive it.
These terms exist in English and German. If the two versions differ, the German version prevails.
While Luckysoft GmbH is being founded, the people founding it act in its name. When it is entered in the commercial register, Luckysoft GmbH takes over these terms with all rights and obligations.
