What you can ask

Plain sentences, in English, German or any other language. What SplitPop does with each:

  • Split this receipt with Mia and Jonas.

    SplitPop works out each share and shows the expense as a card. It tells the assistant to read it back and wait for your yes before recording it.

  • Who owes whom in “Lake weekend”?

    The settle-up card: what you get back or owe, and the fewest payments that settle the group.

  • Settle up the trip.

    The same plan, with a Mark all as paid button for once the money has changed hands. SplitPop records the payments; it never moves money.

  • What did we spend on food in August?

    The spending card: what went on each category that month, with arrows to the month before and after.

  • Add Lea to the group.

    Lea joins the group’s people, so expenses can be split with her, if your role in the group lets you add people.

  • I paid Jonas back for the tickets.

    A payment from you to Jonas, in the currency you paid in. Everyone’s balances update.

Receipts go onto the expense

Attach the photo to your message. ChatGPT reads it, and SplitPop can put the photo itself onto the expense, where everyone in the group sees it.

When the answer is a plan, a new expense or a set of numbers, SplitPop shows it as a card in the conversation: for settling up, a new expense, balances and spending. A card’s button is your confirmation, and it records exactly what the card shows.

Setup

Set up SplitPop in ChatGPT

Today you add SplitPop to ChatGPT yourself, in developer mode, on chatgpt.com in a browser. OpenAI’s current help centre says apps added this way can record and change things in Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces: in Business only workspace admins can use developer mode, and in Enterprise and Edu an admin gives you access first. On other plans such apps may be limited to reading (the help centre says so for Pro); SplitPop could then show your groups but not record anything.

  1. Open chatgpt.com in your browser and sign in.

  2. Turn on developer mode: on your own account under Settings, Security and login; in a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace under Settings, Apps, Advanced settings, once an admin has allowed it. ChatGPT shows a warning about apps added this way; read it before you go on.

  3. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins and choose the plus button. In a workspace you can also start from Settings, Apps, Create.

  4. Name it SplitPop and enter the address below as its connection. If ChatGPT asks how to sign in, choose OAuth. Then create it.

  5. Sign in with your SplitPop account when ChatGPT sends you to SplitPop’s sign-in page, during setup or the first time SplitPop is used.

  6. In a chat, open the plus menu next to the message box and pick SplitPop.

ChatGPT also asks before an app writes, depending on your settings: in developer mode write actions need your confirmation by default, and you can let it remember your answer for a conversation.

You stay in control

  • SplitPop tells the assistant to read back amounts and people and wait for your yes before it records an expense or a payment or changes who’s in a group. ChatGPT and Claude also ask before a tool writes, depending on your settings.
  • An assistant acts as you, with your role in each group, and can never do more than you can in the app.
  • Under Connected apps in your SplitPop profile you see what assistants did for you, and one switch pauses all of them.
  • No assistant can delete your account. Only you can, in the app.
  • Payments are records of money paid elsewhere. SplitPop never moves money.
  • To disconnect, open Settings, Plugins in ChatGPT and disconnect SplitPop. Your groups stay as they are.

Which ChatGPT plans can use it?

OpenAI’s current help centre says apps added in developer mode can record and change things in Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces. SplitPop itself is free.

Why developer mode?

It is how you add an app to ChatGPT by its address today. SplitPop works the same there as anywhere else: it acts as you, with your role in each group, and it tells ChatGPT to check with you before it records an expense or a payment or changes who is in a group.

Can ChatGPT put my receipt on the expense?

Yes. Attach the photo to your message and ask for it: SplitPop puts the file onto the expense, where everyone in the group sees it.

How do I disconnect it?

Disconnect SplitPop under Settings, Plugins in ChatGPT, or pause every assistant at once under Connected apps in your SplitPop profile. What ChatGPT recorded stays in the group.
